Staff costumes for World Book Day
Every student is entitled to one World Book Day token which can be used at Waterstones and W.H. Smith. The tokens can be used towards buying any book or swapped for special £1 world book day books. Please use them to buy a book for yourself or to swap for a £1 book which could be donated to your LM groups bookbox.
There is a national competition to design a bookmark for World Book Day. The template can be downloaded here.
Please give entries in to the LRC by the 18th April, and we will enter them for you.
Bring your dad to school – reading sessions
Starting after school on Wednesday 5th March, we will be running weekly reading based activities for families. Dads and other male family members are particularly welcome at these sessions. Children tend to value the extra time and input offered by male role models.
The sessions will be held in the Learning Resource Centre on: Wednesdays at 5:30 - 7pm or Saturdays at 11:30 - 1pm
Activities include reading books together, recommending books, watching a film based on a book and compiling biographies on favourite celebrities. All resources will be available at school and there will be PIZZA!
Contact Mrs Webber in the LRC for more details
Art Exhibition 2014
Able students in KS3 were invited to submit an entry for the exhibition. Year 7's theme was sealife, Year 8 was the urban environment and Year 9 was The Mad Hatter's tea party. There were 6 winners in the KS3 exhibition, a 3D and a 2D winner in each year group. We also displayed some KS4 work from art and design, make up, illustration and animation and the photography courses.
The exhbition was extremely well attended with familes and friends of all the KS3 entrants and it was a lovely night.
Year 8 Values and Ethics students visited by Robin Walker MP
Tuesday 28th Jan 2014. We went Oriel College, University of Oxford !
We had a tour of the college, a lecture from a Law Professor, lunch in one of the Harry Potter Hall’s (used in the film), a look around the Pitt River Museum and spent some useful time with Oxford undergraduates, looking at their accommodation and hearing what it was like to be an undergraduate at one of the most prestigious universities in the world !
Looking for Active Kids vouchers!!!
We are collecting the Active Kids vouchers from Sainsburys, to enable us to get some new cooking equipment for Food Technology. The box for the vouchers will be in the Arts Block Reception and we have until 20th May to collect as many as possible!!
Christopher Whitehead LC Baselayer range
A couple of years we introduced the CWLC Baselayer range manufactured by PlayerLayer. We feel it has been a great success and the feedback from pupils has been excellent.
The purpose is to provide a high quality baselayer option whilst also standardizing appearance to maintain a professional, uniformed look.
Currently these are optional items of PE Kit; however if your son/daughter would like to wear a baselayer during games/matches or training sessions then please ensure they have the school branded ones.
To order simply go to: www.playerlayer.com. Then search in the Schools section for: Christopher Whitehead Language College
