On Monday 11th November 2013 the whole school took part in a day of activities to mark Remembrance Day. All lessons were taught with a focus on Remembrance within their subjects. The whole school gathered together to observe two minutes silence followed by the playing of the Last Post by William Hoaen from SIGG. Amongst many different activities, the following photographs show a sample of activities from the day. The PE department invited the armed forces to test the fitness of our students. The science department explored the development of prosthetic limbs created by war injuries. In Humanities, students reserached and wrote a news article for the 12th November 1918, after the Armstice had been declared. Can I formally thank all staff from all departments who created a diverse curriculum for the day and to all students who fully involved themselves in these activities. I have been overwhelmed by stories about family members who have served in conflict and will be organising these for the school website.

War Horse Trip at The Birmingham Hippodrome.
The Drama and Humanities Department ran a trip to go and see 'War Horse' at The Birmingham Hippodrome last night as part of the school's rolling programme of events for Rememberance Sunday. It was a fantastic performance with very few dry eyes at the end of the show. Our students as ever were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

Values and Ethics lessons see democracy in action!
On 7th October Year 7 and 8 students were visited by Worcestershire Youth Cabinet, who asked the students to vote on what the most important issues for them are, their votes will be counted and discussed when Members of UK Youth Parliament come together to debate and decide at the House of Commons the most important issue to campaign on for the year ahead.
The UK Youth Parliament is the only organisation that is allowed to sit in the House of Commons. Last year, Make Your Mark got the opinions from 253,637 young people nationwide – this was a turnout of 4.26% and was the biggest national youth consultation ever!
Here in Worcestershire the results are used to decide on what the campaigns will be for the next year and to write a manifesto.
It was a really great way for our students to have a say on what is important to them and for them to experience the democratic process first hand.

Christopher Whitehead LC Baselayer range
A couple of years we introduced the CWLC Baselayer range manufactured by PlayerLayer. We feel it has been a great success and the feedback from pupils has been excellent.
The purpose is to provide a high quality baselayer option whilst also standardizing appearance to maintain a professional, uniformed look.
Currently these are optional items of PE Kit; however if your son/daughter would like to wear a baselayer during games/matches or training sessions then please ensure they have the school branded ones.
To order simply go to: www.playerlayer.com. Then search in the Schools section for: Christopher Whitehead Language College
